Reno Journal Gazette Faith Forum Question:

Why would an infinite and perfect God want or need worship from finite beings?

Toni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of Reno

God, the Absolute, doesn’t NEED anything – including our adoration. Also…God doesn’t want us to be happy if one’s path is to go through life like Milne’s Eeyore…God doesn’t even care if we live by the rules of right or wrong. No finite mental constraint like needing, wanting, or caring informs God’s Love for us, because God IS Love. It’s the “Is-ness” that’s important here. If “I am in the Father and the Father is in me…”, then the Truth of us isn’t our limitations.

God doesn’t need our worship because It doesn’t acknowledge the illusion of separation, i.e., us running around on Earth as ‘finite beings’. We are One, not subordinates. We experience the universe as separate to learn and grow spiritually and find our way back to Wholeness. That is “worship”. The best way to accomplish this is to see the divine in one another and act accordingly.

Reno Gazette Journal / Faith Forum question...What do you think about astrology, fortune tellers, tarot cards?Rev. Toni King15th Century Astrologers were the era’s medical doctors and tarot cards were introduced for playing Italian table games. While the lineage from stars to modern medicine is nebulous (wink-wink), and history of cartomancy (divination using playing cards) predates tarot, it seems evident that we humans creatively find the occult wherever we can imagine it. Whether we’re looking for guidance in rich symbology or “fun in the Sun-signs” the question remains, Is God in the midst of this, too?Charlatans aside, I think, yes. We all have the spark of divinity within, and we also have our own personal talents and abilities to commune with Creator-God, Cosmos, Divine Intelligence. We are each channels for That. In the same way a tuning fork discovers water, the mind-body-soul continuum discovers Spirit. However your relationship with Spirit develops or spirituality manifests in your life – whether at church or a parlor table – is all valid. ... See MoreSee Less

Reno Journal Gazette Faith Forum Question:What issues would you like to see Pope Leo XIV pursue?Issues of disparity . . .Toni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of Reno…hindering global unity: climate change, migration, human rights for marginalized peoples; and also to inspire folks to serve their communities in ways that are meaningful to them. As an American of the 21st century, Pope Leo has previously used his voice in social media to speak from a place of “truth, unity, and love”, honoring the core values of his Augustinian roots. With his platform expanded, Pope Leo can challenge world leaders directly, powered by ruthless Truth from the heart. His role to dispense a Higher Truth could bring together people of all faiths and promote a global ideology of compassion. We may be asked to examine the veracity of what we hold in our own hearts. Do the beliefs held there, in our innermost chamber, reflect the good we want to see in the world? If not, are we ready to let that s*** go and work toward peace? ... See MoreSee Less
