What draws people toward religion?
Communion
Toni King, Unity Minister, Unity Center of Reno
The often unidentifiable inner experience – communion with the Divine. Many spiritual seekers have had enough of an experience to want more. We are drawn into spiritual community because we are desirous to catch another glimpse, re-create, remember. Adhering to religious practice serves to remind us of the greater purpose we seek, a more profound experience of God.
Participating in religion gives us opportunity to imbed reminders into our world to commune with God. Like people and relationships, places and communities, sacred texts, and meaningful experiences, seeing God in the faces and kindness of other like-minded seekers reminds us to remain steady on a righteous path that will bear the fruit of the often unexpected yet satisfying experience of communion. We construct external environments in our lives, like religion, because communion nourishes both the Truth of What we are and the unfolding awareness of who we have come here to be.

Lenten Series 2026: Release and Reimagine
Lent is more than a season of preparation for Easter—it is an invitation to transform ourselves. These weeks provide an opportunity to release thoughts that discourage us, habits that hinder us, and beliefs that keep our lives small.
But once we clear away what has been holding us back, how do we move toward our dreams? What uplifting thoughts or habits can we adopt? We can be anything we can imagine! Reimagine What Life Can Be
Rev. Toni King’s Lesson: Reimagining and the Misuse of Imagination
The idea that we can release what no longer serves us and reimagine our lives was introduced long ago by Unity founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. But when imagination is misused, especially in the absence of facts and faith, it can become a source of anxiety, fear, and limitation rather than creativity, vision, or healing.
“With my imagination I lay hold of perfect ideas and clothe them with substance.” — Charles Fillmore
Denial: I release thoughts of anxiety and doubt that do not serve my vision for harmony.
Affirmation: I use Imagination as my sacred tool for manifesting my dreams, healing through resilience, and my portal to divine wisdom.
